Hello monerobros, we all like new tech dont we? In todays thread ill teach you how to shrink your 80 GB BluRay remuxs into smaller, more storage efficient encodes using Handbrake! (80 GB down to ~1 GB)
How to create your own AV1 movies:
First, download Handbrake, its very popular, easy to use and open-source.
Open Handbrake and import your remux file.
My Handbrake settings for AV1:
> MKV output, passthrough metadata
> 1080p Resolution Limit
Filters:
> Colorspace = BT. 709 (for SDR)
FOR INTERLACED SOURCES (Usually old DVDs):
> Interlace Detection = Default
> Deinterlace = Decomb + EEDI2 Bob
Video Settings:
> SVT-AV1 10bit Encoder (This will use your CPU)
> Framerate = Constant framerate, same as source
> Encoder preset = 2
> Encoder tune = SSIM (Dont use this for animated sources)
> Encoder profile = main
> Encoder level = 4.1
> Quality = CRF 30
> Advanced options = –tile-columns=2 –tile-rows=1 –lookahead 40 –keyint 240
FOR GRAINY SOURCES - Append the following:
> –enable-grain –aq-mode=1
Audio settings:
> Dolby Atmos/ DTS-MA HD transcode to 192 Kbps Stereo Opus
> Passthru English subtitles
> Press "Start encode" and come back in ~10ish hours.
> (Settings tested on Ryzen 9 5950X 16 Core CPU)
You can expect to bring movies down from ~80 GB to ~500 MB - 3 GB with these settings. Most encodes take 8-11 hours. You will notice some artifacts with these settings, if you'd like better quality, lower the CRF value, and encoder preset value. (CRF = 23, Preset 1 for example)
Feel free to ask questions or make changes to the settings to better suite your needs!
> I tried attaching Oppenheimer (2023).mkv to show you how good these settings look at 1.4 GB, but I get an upload error. sorry monerobros
